Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the Academy of the Holy Angels! As you visit these pages, I hope you will discover a sense of the Holy Angels experience and how our faculty and staff continue to inspire and challenge our young women to achieve their personal best and become the leaders our world needs most.
As we enter our 138th year, today more than ever we seek what Sister Nonna Dunphy sought as she founded our school in Fort Lee in 1879; to follow the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and transform our world through education. The coming school year indeed promises to be a transformative one here in Demarest as we move forward to renovate the former convent building- creating new art studios, a state of the art computer lab, two new multi-purpose classrooms and faculty meeting and office space. The second floor will now be home to the SSND Heritage suite where our Religious studies classes and Campus Ministry will meet; the Academy archives, conference rooms and our business/administrative offices. The newly created Sister Genevieve Kelleher Hall will allow for the expansion of our STREAM programs for future generations of Angels.
The achievements of our Class of 2016 continue to prove that our Angels do indeed fly higher! Our recent graduates garnered admission to many of the nation’s top-tier colleges and universities and received more than twenty one million dollars in scholarship awards. Our young women live the words of our foundress Blessed Theresa Gerhardinger, "In unity is our strength” as they contributed over 29,000 hours in service activities to both local and global communities.
As students at the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen county, today’s Angels experience an environment that challenges each young woman to reach the fullness of her potential, so that she in turn may share her gifts with others. Steeped in the charism of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, we are a community of one mind, one heart and one spirit. Our administration, board, faculty and staff devote all their energies to provide an environment where academic excellence, moral development, integrity and service to others are the hallmarks of an AHA education.
In the words of an alumna, Holy Angels is a place where she discovered that “God has plans for our lives that are greater than we can ever imagine”. Whatever the reason for choosing AHA, what remains forever constant is a strong sense of school spirit, lifelong friendships and an intense pride and loyalty for their alma mater.
I invite you to visit us to learn more about the advantages Holy Angels offers today’s young women. We would love to meet you as an “Angel for a Day” or at one of our open houses. Come and discover the difference that a Holy Angels education can make in your life!
