Alexis says the AHA experience is “like no other,” as it includes challenges that promote learning and growth, and a supportive environment. A true scholar-athlete, Alexis is pursuing multiple Advanced Placement courses – and has already earned 3 college credits for taking the organic chemistry class through Fairleigh Dickinson University and another three from George Mason University. She recently earned the University of Pennsylvania Book Award and the Silver Award for her performance on the National Spanish Exam Levels 1, 2, and 3. She is an AP Scholar and a member of various academic honor societies. She is a stellar gymnast, and became the first Gymnastics County Champion and State Qualifier in Holy Angels’ history. She was part of the Junior Olympic Program and became the USAIGC Gold Bars State Champion in 2015. Alexis was one of the first members of the AHA Gymnastics Team and founded Light the Candle, a club that provides birthday cards for children in foster care. She assists other Angels as a peer tutor in science. Alexis attended the HOBY State Seminar in 2015 and the HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy in 2016. She is an active volunteer for multiple causes, and has spent multiple hours lending a hand at Valley Hospital.
“You are always in an environment where you know that the people around you care for you and want to help you, even when times become the most stressful. You are challenged with many hours of work and activities that you know you have to do, but it allows you to realize how capable you are and how powerful you can become. It has taught me skills that are necessary for both school and life in general. I have transformed as a person since my time at AHA and I know that no other school would provide the same opportunity.”
