The Class of 2030 is Moving on up to the Upper School!

On Friday, June 8, the Academy of the Holy Angels celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2030 during its annual Middle School Moving Up Ceremony. Surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and staff, the eighth-grade students were recognized for their achievements and formally welcomed into the next chapter of their Holy Angels journey as members of the Upper School. The ceremony highlighted a year filled with academic growth, leadership, service, creativity, and school spirit.

Director of Middle School Affairs Mrs. Brianna Portuesi reflected on the many ways the class contributed to the life of the school. She praised students for embracing new opportunities and establishing traditions that will continue for future generations of Angels. From participating in the first-ever Middle School Cross Country and Track teams to competing in Volleyball and Basketball, planning the inaugural AHA Eighth Grade Dance, and participating in retreats, service projects, and awareness programs. Mrs. Portuesi also celebrated the many talents showcased by the class throughout the year. Students distinguished themselves on stage in The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition, as well as through dance, music, visual arts, journalism, yearbook production, and the WISE program. Their creativity, dedication, and willingness to share their gifts left a lasting impact on the Middle School community.

Director of Middle School Academics and Counseling, Mrs. Rita Goff, reflected on the tremendous academic and personal growth she witnessed throughout the year. She reminded students that education extends far beyond grades and test scores, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, independence, and self-confidence.

Mrs. Goff commended the students for embracing challenges, developing stronger study habits, advocating for themselves, and taking advantage of resources such as Independent Study Hall, Homework Club, and faculty support. She encouraged the graduates to continue pursuing their interests, exploring new opportunities, and embracing challenges as they transition to high school.

“As you move up to high school, we hope you carry that confidence with you,” Mrs. Goff shared. “Trust yourselves, continue to ask questions, continue to work hard, and do not be afraid to challenge yourselves.”

The ceremony concluded with an inspiring message to the graduates as they prepare for the next stage of their academic journey:

“Class of 2030, your wings already exist; all you need to do is fly.”

As the newest members of the Holy Angels Upper School, the Class of 2030 leaves behind a meaningful legacy in the Middle School while carrying forward the values of faith, scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood that define the Holy Angels experience. The Academy congratulates these young women and looks forward to watching them continue to grow, lead, and fly in the years ahead.
