Upper School Athletics
The Holy Angels Upper School athletic program is dedicated to nurturing the holistic development of each individual. Our dedicated coaches offer student-athletes unparalleled opportunities to excel in interscholastic athletics while also fostering their spiritual and physical growth. While competition is rigorous, our emphasis on fair play, integrity, and unwavering commitment to sportsmanship and teamwork sets the foundation for a positive athletic experience.
Fall Sports
Soccer
The AHA soccer program, comprising JV and Varsity teams in the competitive Big North Conference, offers players the opportunity to improve and compete against top-ranked national and state teams. Many graduates advance to collegiate soccer at prestigious universities.
Gymnastics
The Holy Angels gymnastics team – the only non-public team in Bergen County – is ambitiously striving for County and State titles under the guidance of veteran coach Stacey Shapiro, embodying our motto “Angels Fly Higher.”
Tennis
The Angels Tennis team at Holy Angels is a powerhouse in Bergen County, dedicated to developing players of all skill levels, fostering team camaraderie, and continually striving for success with a mix of seasoned members and new talent.
Volleyball
Over the past four years, the Holy Angels Varsity volleyball team has been consistently ranked among Bergen County’s top 20 teams and has excelled in county and state tournaments, thanks to a cohesive program that integrates novice and experienced players with a focus on communication and skill development.
Cheer
Students from freshmen to seniors can try out for either the Bergen Catholic or St. Joseph Regional Cheer Teams, both of which cheer for boys’ football and basketball, participate in local competitions, and are not required to cheer for AHA except for one or two games.
Winter Sports
Basketball
Veteran Coach Sue Liddy, a 800+ game winner and New Jersey Coaches Hall of Fame inductee, has shaped our high school basketball program for nearly 40 years with her fundamentally sound team concept, producing five County championships and numerous collegiate players, while continuously studying and scouting to keep our JV and Varsity teams competitive.
Bowling
The Holy Angels bowling team, led by Hall of Famer and Coach of the Year Patrick Dunne, competes successfully in the Big North Conference and state tournaments, fostering continuous improvement and lasting friendships among its members.
Fencing
Our high school fencing team is known for its consistent success in local and state competitions, fostering a supportive environment that nurtures both experienced club fencers and beginners, and preparing graduates for collegiate fencing at prestigious programs like Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Northeastern, and NYU.
Indoor Track
Led by Coach Nicholas Veneroso, the highly competitive Indoor Tack team at Holy Angels competes in major meets at Fairleigh Dickinson University and the Armory in NYC, utilizing their facilities and adapting workouts to local weather conditions, consistently striving for excellence regardless of snowfall.
Spring Sports
Golf
Our golf team at AHA welcomes both experienced scratch players and newcomers, fostering an environment of learning, sharing, and fun while competing in the Big North Conference, playing 9 hole matches on courses like Alpine, Ridgewood, North Jersey, and County courses, and participating in 18 hole matches and tournaments at Overpeck Golf Course.
Lacrosse
The lacrosse team aims to demonstrate its competitive prowess against top-level opponents through a demanding schedule, driven by ambitious annual goals. They seek to strengthen their program by attracting talented athletes and fostering comprehensive player development, emphasizing both athletic and personal growth.
Spring Track & Field
Led by Coach Nicholas Veneroso, our Spring Track team in Bergen County consistently excels at the League, County, and State levels. With a robust coaching staff supporting over 100 girls each season, the team emphasizes personal growth and achievement, resulting in numerous County and State Championships, along with individual honors such as All County, All State, and National recognition.
Softball
Holy Angels softball aims to provide a positive experience for every player, fostering confidence, self-esteem, and life skills, while emphasizing disciplined, team-oriented, and sportsmanlike play both on and off the field.
