Angels Golf Dominates with Third State Championship Win
The Academy of the Holy Angels girls’ golf team has officially cemented its place in New Jersey sports history by winning its third consecutive NJSIAA State Championship. The Angels secured the title on May 13 at Raritan Valley Country Club, finishing with a team score of 309, a full nine strokes ahead of runner-up Pingry.
Led by head coach Patrick Dunne, the team weathered tough competition and wet, windy conditions to claim the Non-Public state title in what marks the first year New Jersey has awarded group championships. This latest victory caps an extraordinary season that also included a fourth straight Bergen County title and a repeat as Big North Conference Champions.
The five Angels who competed at the state championship are Ava Bang ’28, Inha Jun ’25, Angelina Kim ’25, Olivia Lee ’26, and Eleanor Lim ’27, with all five finishing in the top 30 individually in a field of over 100 golfers.
“I never thought I’d coach a team that was this good,” Dunne said. “To win three in a row against some of the competition they’ve faced—and it’s always a different team we’ve had to worry about—is just incredible.”
Senior standout Inha Jun delivered a phenomenal performance, shooting a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Angels, narrowly missing the individual title. Inha will continue her golf career at NYU’s Stern School of Business in the fall. Fellow senior Angelina Kim, who finished with an 80, will attend and play golf at the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall. Coach Dunne has credited both Inha and Angelina with being the driving force in the program’s success over the last four years. Junior Olivia Lee added to the team’s strong showing with a 78, placing ninth. Sophomore Eleanor Lim (80) and freshman Ava Bang (82) rounded out the top-30 finishers, signaling a great future for the Angels as they look to extend their legacy next season.
With this victory, Holy Angels improves to 63-1 in match play since 2021, the lone loss coming in 2021 against Bergen Tech. Their ability to compete in all weather conditions and their consistent excellence have established them as a true force in New Jersey girls’ golf.
Coach Dunne summed it up best: “They put the time in, they work hard, and they’re confident in their ability. And it shows.”
