Angel’s Governor’s School Research Headed to MIT Conference

 Holy Angels student Chloe Chen ’27 was selected as one of 64 juniors from participating New Jersey high schools to attend the Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology (GSET) at Rutgers University. The experience gave her the chance to study alongside students who share her interests and explore subjects ranging from robotics and advanced physics to vibe coding and waste-to-resource sustainability.

For her capstone project, Chloe worked with Lockheed Martin on a challenge with a practical purpose: designing a low-cost electronic waste sorting system for communities with limited resources. Her group built a working prototype from scratch, using AI, sensors, and a conveyor belt to sort e-waste. The students also wrote and presented a research paper on their work.

Now, that research is taking Chloe to MIT. Her group’s paper has been nominated for a poster presentation at the 2026 IEEE MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference, held the weekend of October 10. Chloe plans to attend and discuss the team’s research.
