Celebrating the Impact of Two Inspiring Educators

This year, the Academy of the Holy Angels community bids a heartfelt farewell to two extraordinary members of our faculty whose dedication, leadership, and compassion have shaped generations of students and colleagues alike: Carmen Quiones and Patrick Dunne.

Carmen Quinones: A Champion for Every Student

Since joining Holy Angels in 2005, Carmen Quiones has left an indelible mark on our school. Known for her infectious energy, unwavering belief in her students, and commitment to our mission, Carmen has served AHA in countless ways: as a teacher, administrator, mentor, and advocate.

Whether she was orchestrating the lively (and legendary) International Night, transforming her classroom into a karaoke stage to celebrate her students’ hard work, or ensuring that every student in her AP classes passed their exams.

Carmen never stopped learning herself. While teaching full-time, she pursued a master’s degree in the teaching of history and her leadership certification, often taking night and weekend classes while still offering to cover any open class that needed a teacher. She embodies the principle of never asking others to do what she would not do herself.

Beyond the classroom, Carmen’s impact can be seen in programs she helped create, which reflect her deep belief that every student deserves the chance to succeed and grow. She lives the mission of the School Sisters of Notre Dame: to educate every student who walks through our doors, nurturing them into stronger, wiser, and more confident critical thinkers.

Carmen’s warmth, dedication, and vibrant spirit have made her a role model and a friend to so many. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and high standards, and we are profoundly grateful for the years she has given to AHA.

Patrick Dunne: The Heart of History and the Spirit of Sportsmanship

Patrick Dunne began his remarkable career at Holy Angels in 1990, following his early career in the Bronx, marking 38 years of dedicated service in education. During his tenure, he brought history to life for countless Angels, helping students not just learn facts but understand and appreciate the stories of those who came before us.

Patrick’s devotion to his colleagues was as strong as his dedication to his students. Principal Jean Miller fondly recalled his steady support to longtime History teacher Marylynn Kirschner, assisting her daily and ensuring she could continue to teach when she became wheelchair-bound. After her passing, it was Patrick who suggested naming the History Award in her honor, a testament to his loyalty and respect for his peers.

Known to many as a favorite teacher, Patrick also distinguished himself as an exceptional coach. Affectionately nicknamed the “Lord of the Lanes” and the “Lord of the Links,” he built teams that felt like families. His coaching philosophy centered not just on skill but on self-belief and trust in the process. His impact was so profound that, when his athletes took to the podium at sports banquets, they spoke not only about their teammates but about Patrick, a mentor who guided their growth as athletes and as young people.

Patrick’s quiet strength, sense of humor, and humility have inspired colleagues and students for years and will be deeply missed by the community. We are so thankful for his decades of dedication and the countless ways he has strengthened the heart of Holy Angels.

As Carmen and Patrick begin this new chapter, we celebrate their remarkable contributions and the profound impact they have had on the Academy of the Holy Angels. Their legacies will live on in the lives of all those they have taught, mentored, and inspired.

We wish them both a joyful, fulfilling retirement; they have certainly earned it.
