Handbell Mentors Get Ringing Endorsement

First-year handbell ringers from the Academy of the Holy Angels Middle School are receiving expert tips and hands-on assistance from experienced eighth graders.

The sixth graders clearly enjoy getting one-to-one assistance from the older Angels as they learn to play the bells and chimes.

AHA Performing Arts Director Daniel Mahoney gives the eighth grade girls a ringing endorsement, especially for working to build the middle school’s handbell “team.”

“This partnership is a beautiful way for the older students to share their talents and form bonds with the youngest handbell players,” Mahoney added.

AHA Middle School, which opened in September 2021, offers several opportunities for young musicians to share and develop their instrumental and vocal skills. Angels in Grades 6 through 8 may join the middle school’s chorus, orchestra, or the beginner or intermediate handbell ensembles.

Founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1879, the Academy of the Holy Angels is the oldest private girls’ school in Bergen County. While AHA is steeped in Catholic tradition, this prestigious school serves young women from a broad spectrum of cultural and religious backgrounds. The Academy’s current leaders continue to further the SSND mission to provide each student with the tools she needs to reach the fullness of her potential—spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically, by offering a first-rate education in a nurturing environment where equal importance is placed on academic excellence, character development, moral integrity, and service to others.
