Jaime Carlin: North Jersey Athlete of the Week
Holy Angels tennis standout Jaime Carlin ’27 has been named North Jersey Female Athlete of the Week after showcasing not only her athletic skill, but also the adaptability and leadership that have made her one of the state’s top young players. Her success on the court stems from a mix of determination and versatility. Coach Meagan Williams describes her as a “phenomenal team leader who constantly uplifts her teammates.”
That balance was on full display during a recent Bergen County tournament match. After dropping her first set, Jaime shifted her strategy, introducing high, looping “moon balls” that extended rallies to more than 30 shots and kept her opponent on the court for nearly 90 minutes.
Her adaptable yet fiercely competitive mindset has carried her through an impressive career so far. She began swinging a racquet at age two and started competing in USTA Eastern Section tournaments by age seven. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many athletes took a step back, she doubled down on training, and fell even more in love with the sport. Jaime joined the Academy of the Holy Angels Middle School before continuing on to the Upper School, where she immediately made an impact. She won the No. 1 singles title in the 2023 Bergen County Team Tournament and recently added another county victory.
Despite a strong USTA ranking that could justify skipping high-school play for higher-point tournaments, Jaime is committed to representing AHA. “I love my teammates and coach at Holy Angels,” she said. “You make sacrifices to help your team, and I know that will help me adjust when I play in college.” With a 50–8 record as AHA’s No. 1 singles player, she continues to anchor the team’s strong lineup heading into the NJSIAA Non-Public Team Tournament, where the Angels are seeded second.
Off the court, Jaime excels academically and plans to study biochemistry, potentially pursuing a career in sports medicine. Whether it’s structure, spontaneity, or superstition, Jaime’s unique combination of traits is exactly what makes her a champion, on and off the court.
