World Languages
At Holy Angels, students are encouraged to learn new languages and truly become citizens of the world. The AHA World Language Department’s objectives align with the Academy’s mission to encourage students to reach the fullness of their potential so they may share their gifts with others.
Our digital language laboratory allows teachers to facilitate interpersonal speaking for increased fluency. Online textbooks and internet activities foster performance and technical competence. Accelerated studies based on placement exams are also possible.
Three years of the same language are required, with an elective fourth year. Students may pursue a second language as early as sophomore year.
The department integrates New Jersey standards, administers national language exams in all languages offered, and prepares students to succeed in the Advanced Placement program.
Students who attain high levels of achievement are recognized by language associations and national honor societies. Service learning opportunities are also emphasized through overseas travel and events organized by clubs that lead global charitable actions and promote multicultural awareness.
Requirements: Students are required to take three years of a world language course sequence. All averages presented are yearly, unweighted averages unless otherwise noted.
The Academy offers French, Italian, Spanish, and Latin. In general, grade levels are indicated for each course. Incoming students have who studied two or more years of one of the languages mentioned above, and wish to accelerate in that language, must take a placement exam.
